About

Ralph Cale

Pencil Artist

Based in West Virginia, artist Ralph Cale is inspired by subjects he feels has a story to tell. Worn, weathered, forgotten or overlooked things. Perhaps an individual whose appearance represents a way of life, pride and hard work.

Ralph Cale is a self-taught artist, using graphite pencil to bring life to his subjects. Through great detail, contrast and composition, Ralph strives to create a piece that is very realistic – yet not quite that of a photograph making it truly unique. His work draws the viewer in to imagine the story the subject is telling. Or perhaps evoke a memory in their own story. Ralph’s work can be found displayed throughout the Appalachian region in finer shops and galleries. Prints of his work as well as originals are found in collections throughout the United States. Select prints will be available in our online store.
